Matthew Lewis

Matthew Lewis - Musical Director

Born and brought up in Port Talbot, Matthew has participated in a whole range of musical activites from an early age. At the tender age of eleven he began his association with the Cymric Choir as a trainee Accompanist under the direction of the late Mr Roger Chilcott.

In 2006 Matthew under the tutorship of Mr Howell Price was successful in attaining a distinction at Grade 8 in the Organ examination of the Royal School of Music in 2006. During the same year he was appointed as The Assistant Musical Director of the Cymric Choir. In 2009 Matthew was appointed to the role of Musical Director at St Mary's Church. In October 2015 Matthew became the Musical Director of the Cymric Choir.

Matthew is also the Musical Director of Cor Serenata and has previously been the Musical Director of the Bois Afan Choir and the Organist of Neath Male Voice Choir.

One of the Annual Highlights of each year for him is playing as the Liturgical Organist for the Diocese of Llandaff pilgrimage to the shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham in Norfolk.

He now works as a freelance Musician providing vocal, piano and organ tuituion.

Angharad Evans - Accompanist

Angharad started piano lessons at the age of 4 and the harp 8 years old. She continued studying the piano up to and including her time at Cardiff University despite her main instrument of study at university being the harp. During her award-winning career as a harpist Angharad has performed with artists such as Bryn Terfel, Elin Manahan Thomas and Katherine Jenkins as well as performing for and meeting Queen Elizabeth II. Angharad has travelled extensively with her harps, performing throughout Wales, Britain and other European countries such as Spain and Finland. Her recorded music has been broadcast worldwide

Angharad's love of accompanying began in Ysgol Ystalyfera 6th form, where she accompanied her friend for her ‘A’ level flute and cello recital. She also accompanied two school choirs, both of which won prizes at the Urdd Eisteddfod. Angharad continued to accompany various instrumentalists and singers at university and was also repetiteur for productions of Trial By Jury, Bugsy Malone Dido & Aneas. She now conducts and accompanies her school choir at Ysgol Gymraeg Rhosafan and has recently joined the Cymric and Côr Serenata choirs.

Siân Davies - Guest Accompanist

Siân is a graduate of the RoyalWelsh College of Music and Drama, specialising in piano accompaniment.

Over the years, Siân has appeared as guest accompanist for singers such as Rebecca Evans, Gail Pearson, Donald Maxwell and has accompanied at Master classes given by Stephen Isserlis and Julian LloydWebber.

She is currently the Accompanist for Côr De Cymru.

Sian has previously played as the Cymric accompanist on a tour to Martigues in the South of France in 2012 and has recently been both Accompanist and mentor to Jonas Rajan, the Cymric’s trainee accompanist.

Acknowledgement

A Family choir who take their singing seriously, tour abroad extensively, and share many moments of hilarity.

The Cymric as it is affectionately known is one of the oldest choirs in Wales having been established in 1911 by Mr John Bowen Davies.
